Kenneth “Ken” Thompson (born February 4, 1943), often known as ken in hacker circles, is an American computer scientist who was a pioneer in the field of computer science. Thompson spent the most of his career at Bell Labs, where he was responsible for the design and implementation of the first Unix operating system. He also created the B programming language, which was the direct precursor of the C programming language, and was a co-founder and early developer of the Plan 9 operating systems, which he co-developed with his brother.
